Creativity with Ponds

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Robert Dorrance Heres where your creative instincts kick in. This is where you make your pond your own. Basically, its landscaping, but with a pond it can really become an artistic endeavor. Sandstone, bricks, slate, field stone, crushed bricks, stream pebbles, mulch, you name it. Let your imagination be your guide. And thats just the beginning. Once you get a base down then you can start thinking about how you want to work in flowers, and plants. You can integrate annual flowerbeds with perennial beds. That way you can add something different each year for variety and still have the permanence of the flowers that come up year after year. In the perennial beds for example you could plant some early spring blooms like daffodils, and then in the same bed plant mid summer and fall bloomers to keep the color going. Of course there are so many different varieties of annual flowers that youll never run out of ideas for your annual beds. Maybe you like the little ceramic figures that can be set in among the plants. The garden centers have loads of that kind of stuff. You can even get a ceramic toad or two if you like, but Ill guarantee you that you will have plenty of real toads around your pond. As for lights, the garden centers and places like Lowes and Home Depot have great selections of yard lights. Youre sure to find something just right for you. The new solar powered lamps are especially nice for use around water because there is no wiring needed at all. Robert Dorrance has had a pond for the last eight years and would like to share his experiences with you. Saturday, March 29th, 2008

It seems that LG has a special affinity with stylish phones. We have seen it in the form of the popular LG chocolate that has already been a great hit in the mobile phone markets around the world. Also in the list is the LG Prada, a mobile phone that has been especially designed by the Italian fashion house Prada. But our main cause of interest in the popular LG shine is all set take the center stage. It is its ultra cool looks that have added on the popularity and desirability of this handset. This model was originally launched exclusively for the Korean markets and it got unprecedented success which fetched it an entry in the world wide markets as well. LG Shine is no doubt a very glamorous phone. This member of the Black Label series that we know as LG Shine is a slider phone, which reminds us of LG chocolate. Its shiny screen can be passed on as a full fledged mirror when the phone is not in use. This adds to the desirability and makes this expensive handset look more fabulous. And then the casing of this phone is done with steel that makes this mobile phone quite strong and sturdy. The smooth sliding operation unfolds a keypad that gives back lighting effects in blue. And the good news is that the mirror is doesn’t get scratches very easily, but that would not give you a license to use it carelessly. But it should be used with proper care. Auto Loan Financing Basics

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Al_Hearn]Al Hearn Thousands of first-time car buyers enter the market every day. Unfortunately, many such buyers are not familiar with the basics of auto loan financing and often make costly mistakes. New car buyers should educate themselves about auto financing long before they step into a dealer showroom. Learning about financing from a dealer salesperson on the day you intend to buy a car is not the best way. The factors that determine how much you’ll pay for an auto loan are 1)amount to be financed, 2)loan term (months), and 3) interest rate (finance charges). The amount to be financed will include the vehicle price that you and the dealer agree upon, plus any additional costs such as credit insurance, extended warranty, and dealer-installed optional equipment. This amount may also include fees and taxes involved in the purchase. This amount can be reduced by any down payment, rebates, or trade-in allowance. Loan term is the number of payment months, and can range from 24 months to 72 months or more. Generally, the longer the loan, the lower the payments. However, there are disadvantages to long-term loans. Long loans with lower payments do not pay down the loan principal as quickly as a shorter loan. This often creates a “negative equity” situation in which the loan balance exceeds the current market value of the vehicle. This can become a problem if the owner wants to sell or trade for another vehicle in the middle of the loan. Furthermore, if the vehicle is stolen or totaled in an accident in mid-loan, insurance only pays current market value, not outstanding loan balance. Interest rate determines what you’ll pay in finance charges for your loan. At the time of this writing, the national average interest rate for a 36-month new-car loan is 6.28% (from BankRate.com). Used car rates are higher. Rates can vary from lender to lender, and dealer to dealer. Dealers often mark up a lenders rate, so it pays to shop around for your own financing rate from banks and credit unions. Your interest rate is also dependent on your credit score. A poor score can result in a high rate. Car manufacturers frequently offer low promotional interest rates, even as low as 0%, which are usally very good deals. However, make sure you understand all the details and conditions that go along with the deal before you accept. One of the best ways to explore how the above factors affect the payment amount of an auto loan is by using a full-function online calculator such as the [http://www.AutoLoanCalculatorOnline.com]Auto Loan Calculator. Creating a Realistic Tradeshow Budget - How to Avoid Nickel & Dime-ing Yourself to Death

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Susan Friedmann Having a realistic tradeshow budget is crucial for your exhibiting success. Its imperative to include all of the costs associated with exhibiting in your financial plan, yet many exhibitors fail to take this crucial step. Its almost impossible to realize positive ROI when you dont know how much youre spending — and what youre spending it on! If you ask most exhibitors what they think the largest expense associated with tradeshow participation is, chances are theyll tell you the display space. Its true that exhibiting space is expensive. That 10X10 booth can set you back a pretty penny — and price tags go up for larger spaces and prime locations. However, exhibiting space itself is generally only 30% of the total cost associated with exhibiting. That 30% of your budget is fairly fixed. A fabulous negotiator might be able to get show management to shave a few hundred off the price of exhibit space, but thats the exception rather than the rule. Instead, youll want to concentrate on that other 70% of your budget. The expenses that make up the bulk of your participation cost are, to some degree, variable. Theyre under your control — which means, with time, planning, and oversight, you can keep them down. The lower your costs are, after all, the easier it will be to generate a positive ROI on your show! The reality is, however, that most exhibitors dont pay close attention — or any attention at all! — to some of the items that make up the remaining 70%. The cost of their show creeps steadily upward, bit by bit, as small charges mount up and up until theyre a sizable chunk of change. This is particularly common among new exhibitors — although it also plagues seasoned pros who fall prey to the assumption trap. This is when an exhibitor assumes that things will be done this year the way theyve always been done previously. Like all assumptions, this one can prove costly! Here are some of the items that make up that 70%, as well as some thoughts on how to keep these costs manageable. Display Materials Your display can make your show: attractively presenting your merchandise in an eye-catching and innovative way helps capture attendee interest and draw them to your booth. However, you want to make sure that youre not overspending on your display. Theres the initial cost of your display, not to mention the storage and maintenance expense. Consider renting or leasing a display (especially if you are a first-time exhibitor or only attend one show a year): you can often get a high level of customization while saving money and reducing headaches. Freight Shipping displays, products, promotional literature, giveaway items and all the other show stuff to the tradeshow can eat up a lot of money. Consider your shipping options carefully. Take the time to do some comparison shopping. Who can offer you the best deal and ensure timely delivery? It does no good to save money if your material arrives after the show closes. Often, shipping companies have experts on staff who can help your crew pack material in the most cost-efficient manner possible. Again, a minor point, but one that can save you big money. Show Services Read your exhibitor manual! In there, youll find information detailing how and when you need to sign up for show services — items like electricity, floor coverings, and so on. The earlier you sign up, the more youll save. On average, costs go up by at least 25% for these services after the initial deadline passes. The closer you get to the actual show, the more youre going to pay — and if you forget about needing utilities until you arrive on the show floor, youll pay top dollar. This is one clear instance where planning ahead will save you a substantial amount of money. Pre-show Promotion Pre-show promotion is critical to your success. Show management often offers several free and low cost promotional venues: explore your options. This may include participating in a product display area, an Artists Alley, having your name included in category listings in the directory, website advertising and so on. Always consider: will participating in this effort help me reach the target audience Im trying to reach? If you sell widgets and the show organizer is putting together a directory listing of Widget Sellers online and in the guidebook, and charging $35 to participate, it may be the best $35 youve ever spent. Booth Staffers Transporting, lodging, and feeding booth staffers can eat up a considerable chunk of change. Most people have a tendency to live a little grander when theyre on the company dime — you know they dont order the $65 steak dinner at home! Keeping your corporate culture in mind, you may want to introduce some restrictions into the booth staffing budget. Offering per diem meal allowances is one way, requiring receipts is another. Explore lodging options: some hotels offer convention specials if you can book early enough. Again, pre-planning is your best friend. Travel costs can fluctuate wildly, based on fuel prices and other variables beyond your control. Again, giving yourself enough time in the schedule to find good transportation deals can help control costs. They say time is money. Thats certainly true when it comes to the tradeshow arena. By planning ahead and allowing yourself enough time to explore options, sign up for services, promote your participation, and other critical steps, youll be able to enjoy maximum results for minimal expense! Admission Essay

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Aaron Schwartz The time that the students spend in college is the time when every single second should be dedicated to getting more knowledge and experience. Of course, books can give us a lot of information about culture, economy and the experiences of other countries. As studying in college is one of the main ways leading to the accomplishment of my academic and career goals I need this information and I do get it from books. Nevertheless, the best ways to get the knowledge about any country are obtained through having encounters between students with diverse backgrounds and experiences. A student gets significantly more information from live experience and in addition to that he learns how to interact with different people performing different cultures. College is a perfect place for this cultural exchange and making conclusions on the basis of the experiences learned. Understanding the culture and the experiences of people of different backgrounds is the key to seeing the advantages and disadvantages of what we have now. And this concerns any sphere of life and every field of science. I believe, that to make the interaction between the students more productive in the sphere of experience exchange I can draw the portrait of a potential classmate that I truly believe I will learn from. The cultural background of the classmate has no real importance it can be a person from any country and any religion. Nevertheless, it has to be a person that is not superficial in his views but can motivate each of the statements he or she makes. A person that does truly know and deeply understand his own culture and does not feel superior over the other students. This classmate is always eager to share his opinion and to face confrontation in class in the first place. It is widely known that the opinion forms according to the experience of a person. And it will be especially cognitive and interesting to hear the opinion of this classmate and to organize a discussion on the given topic. It has to be a person who is not afraid to speak his mind in public, a confident person able to oppose and with a strong system of values to prevent conformism. To support this type of discussions, especially during informal interactions a potential classmate also needs to show understanding towards the experience of other people, respecting it. The primary goal of the encounters with this classmate will be learning new aspects in different fields of knowledge that can somewhat improve the knowledge I already have. At the same time he needs to be able to learn to and to compromise when it is required. In other words it has to be a very flexible person with very strong academic knowledge and various experiences. Such a classmate can make the time spend in college unforgettable and very saturated with useful information. But to achieve this we all need to show an ability to communicate with people of different cultural backgrounds, different life experiences and points of view. Having the classmate with the qualities above will keep my experience in college on the most possible level productivity. A Wedding For All Seasons

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Declan Tobin In times gone by it wasnt uncommon for young couples to consult the Tarot as to what month of the year according to the stars would be their best time to wed, this would depend on what time of year their sun or moon sign was inline with Venus the goddess of love, which I would take as a positive sign, and so on. Personally I would like to think that the longevity of a marriage would depend on the love of you and your partner and not on the date you get married. These days the factors that make us decide differ a little. Each season brings its own style and flavor to a wedding. The time of year you choose to get married will indeed affect the style and economics of the wedding in many ways including location of the reception, honeymoon destinations, wedding theme and price. Whatever type of wedding you desire there will be a season to suit you. An autumn wedding brings to mind golden and copper themes through the fabrics and the flowers. Flowers this season are earthy yet rich. Take bold colors in purples russets, yellow and reds. Add a natural twist with dark leafy foliages and wood containers. If you choose flowers that are in season this will bring down the cost a little. Seasonal fruits that you can include on the menu are Apples and Pears; these are in season all year round. All these factors combined will bring a nice autumn breeze to the day. Bear in mind that August is quite popular for weddings, if you are having the reception in a hotel book well in advance. The weather is also superb if you are thinking of honeymooning in Europe. Stay clear of south East Asia though as these are experiencing their monsoon seasons. The winter wonderland wedding, a very romantic setting of Burning log fires, mulled wine receptions and Christmas card settings. This would defiantly be an indoor wedding, maybe in a castle or Hotel adorned with rich reds and golden glowing candles. A December wedding is a good idea as the wedding reception price is dropped in many hotels in the first few days after Christmas. The holiday spirit that is still lingering at this time will add to the atmosphere. Snowdrops, Tulips, Amaryllis, and White geisha include some of the winter blooms. Seasonal fruits to be enjoyed include winterberries, Apricots, Cherries and dates. A New Years Eve wedding can be a good idea, ringing in the New Year with a festive and fun time for all involved. Honeymoon destinations for the winter months vary, you can opt for a skiing holiday with a romantic log cabin accommodation or maybe head for the sun kissed beached of Thailand. Keeping in mind flights are usually scarce and pricey around Christmas so book your honeymoon well in advance. Spring / Summer sun will provide for beautiful garden weddings adorned with all of mother natures glory, a fabulous season for a wedding. The colors and flowers to choose from are in abundance from roses to the petals of the cherry blossom, the look of this season is relaxed and simple taking bold flowers and strong colors softening them with driftwood or delicate wisps of grass and raffia. Some of the fruits in season are Peaches, passion fruit, and Citrus fruits, and Quinces. Freshly picked chocolate dipped strawberries would go down well with a champagne reception. A marquee would be a wonderful idea for this season allowing everyone to soak up the atmosphere, remember to include catering and furniture hire as part of the costs if you are watching the budget. The world is your oyster as far as honeymoons go but remember our summer is winter in most of the southern hemisphere including Australia. Whatever your plans dont stress yourself and take as much help from friends and family to make the big day one to remember for all. Booking your honeymoon online including accommodation and avoiding travel agents can save time and money. Valentines Cards: An Art Project Or Should They Be Store Bought?

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Nicola Kennedy Giving Valentines to your classmates used to include endless hours of making them out of construction paper, cute dollies and with painstaking attention to all the details. It was a project that was done at home, for each individual child in the class. And, it was one that great pride was taken in doing. Today, there are much fewer families making Valentines and many more just buying a box of them to give out to their classmates with a simple signature on the back of them. This has happened mainly because of how commercialized the holiday has become. As manufacturing techniques have gotten better and more cost effective that is the way that American school children have gone. Before this, in the 1960s, a book of valentines could be purchased. Children could actually cut out the cards from the book, personalize them with lace trim or even with candy and then send them on. But, it wasnt long before children were ready to skip the cutting out part altogether. The Puns Who hasnt smirked at the cute sayings that are placed on the Valentines cards? Such sayings as Im Sweet On You have been used for years and years. It came from a time of collecting these types of catchy, cute sayings and riddles. These can still be found today on the Valentines that are purchased out of the box. The Cards The cards used to fill a box with a variety of different styles and designs. Common ones were those of fruits and vegetables with these puns on them or they could include a few pictures of cute animals. Today, childrens Valentines are more often in their favorite cartoon character. Homemade Valentines While children may not feel comfortable with providing homemade Valentines to their classmates today, they can and should still make them for their friends outside the classroom, for their adult friends and other loved ones. Not only is it a fun task to do, but it helps with motor skills and creativity as well. All that is needed is a simple piece of paper. The paper can be folded, cut, shaped in any way that they would like it to be. Heres one project to try: * Fold the paper in half, and then fold it in half again in the other direction. * Trim the outer edge as desired and cut a straight line diagonally across the folded corner. This will make a diamond shape in the middle. * Fold it diagonally. Cut hearts along the diagonal line. When the paper is unfolded, there is a line of pin pricks, which make it look much like a piece of lace. * Add this lacy paper to the top of a piece of pink or red paper. * Add decorations such as a picture of cupid, a coloring of a rose or anything that is enjoyable. This is a simple, affordable way to make homemade Valentines that parents and other friends will love to hang on to for many years to come. If your child seems to want to use only Valentines that are store bought, this should be okay as well. Allow them to pick those that they find enjoyable and help them to make those for others as well. Nicola Kennedy has become an expert in giving valentines day cards that are appreciated. The Walk-In Bath Tub In Brief

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Mayoor Patel There have been quite a number of unique innovations when it comes to remodeling a bathroom and of all these innovations, the walk in bath tub is definitely one of the most appreciated. What makes the walk in bath tub so appreciated is not the fact that it looks cool, but rather that is serves a good purpose and is quite helpful to a number of people. Most types of bathroom refurbishing usually involves making the bathroom look better from an aesthetic point of view or in order to make the bathroom keep up with trendy changes in style. There is nothing wrong with this, per se, as having a nice looking bathroom is much more preferable to having a bathroom that appears run down or old looking. The walk in bath tub, however, serves a much more specific and functional purpose and one that is quite noble in terms of its purpose. For many senior citizens and persons with disabilities, a walk in bath tub provides the accessibility that might not be possible if a standard bath tub is used. It may not be easy for certain individuals to rise out of a bath tub as hip and joint problems could preclude such movement. By having a door that opens in order to gain access to the walk in bath tub, there a major reduction of the inaccessibility that would have previously been a problem or may have forced people to take showers that could have resulted in slipping or falling. Of course, there will be those people who will be of the belief that the walk in bath tub will leak water all over the floor. To this, the following response is provided: if that were the case, why would these bath tubs still be on the market after several years. They are most definitely flawed in their ability to keep water from leaking! Mayoor Patel is the writer for the website http://www.bath.wares-are.us/. What Type Of Tomatoes To Grow

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Annette Welsford When growing tomatoes, choosing the variety is important. You need to decide what characteristics are the most important to you, as well as the climate and disease susceptibility in your area. No one variety will perform best across all planting seasons and regions. Issues such as fruit firmness, size, shape, flavour and plant growing habits need to be considered. You also need to decide whether you want a jointed tomato variety or not. In other words, do you want a tomato variety that retains its stalk when picked or one that comes away cleanly from its stalk when picked. Many commercial organic and gourmet tomato growers choose jointed tomato varieties because the tomato with its stalk attached looks attractive to the buyer. However, most home gardeners and non-organic commercial growers choose jointless varieties. The next choice is whether you want a determinate or indeterminate variety. A determinate variety grows to a bush about 1 metre (3 feet) high. At this stage it stops growing and sets a concentrated crop of tomatoes which can be picked over a few weeks. Indeterminate varieties keep growing and can reach a height of up to 5 metres (15 or more feet) when fully mature. The fruit from these can be picked over a period of 12 to 20 weeks. These varieties are frequently used by greenhouse producers. Many cherry tomato varieties are indeterminate. There are also semi-determinate varieties which grow to about 1.5 2 metres (4 6 ft) and set fruit over a longer period than determinate varieties. These are the best suited to home gardens. They generally require staking and the tomatoes are harvested over 2 6 weeks. Detailed information on hot climate and cold climate varieties as well as 100 popular varieties is provided in How to Grow Juicy Tasty Tomatoes . Weight Loss: Easing Into Exercise

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Donovan Baldwin Okay, let’s just accept the fact that if you want to lose weight, be healthy, or both, you need to get some sort of exercise program going. This has been proven over and over again. Yes, you CAN lose some weight without exercise, but your health will not improve, and you may find you have created some new problems if all you do is alter your diet in order to lose weight. Also, trying to lose weight without changing the way you have lived your life will prove the old adage to be true: “Keep doing what you’ve been doing and you will keep getting what you have been getting.” So, to set about changing what “you have been getting” out of life, at least in terms of health, fitness, and weight loss, you will need to get into some sort of exercise program. THE PROBLEMS There are a few problems that people encounter when they start exercising…particularly if they have not been exercising for a while or even worse, are beginning an exercise program for the first time. 1. They have trouble finding the time to exercise. 2. They have difficulty making exercise a habit 3. They are dissatisfied with the results of their exercise program. 4. They injure themselves. SOME SOLUTIONS 1. Many people find that until exercise becomes an integral part of their life, it is difficult to “find the time” to exercise. There are two points here. Engage In Opportunistic Exercise This is the sort of exercise that can be factored into each day’s activities. While parking a few feet farther from the store can be a great way to introduce some physical activity into your daily life, one such event once in a while will not make a great difference. On the other hand, it IS a start, and one of the hardest hurdles to overcome is actually STARTING some sort of exercise program. Putting several of these events into your week, parking farther away, taking the stairs, carrying the groceries in from the car, standing up during phone calls, or walking in place while watching TV, for example can get you started on the road to feeling better, looking better, and better health. Make A Commitment To Exercise There is an old saying that work will expand to take up the resources committed to it. In other words, if a business is doing perfectly well with one phone and a combination fax/copier and then gets several multi-line phones and a high-speed copier, the employees will soon find they “cannot get along” without these additions. Our lives are similar. In our example, if the boss finds a need to cut costs, the employees will soon find that they CAN function without the high-speed copier, just like they did before. In our lives, if we make a commitment to exercise, we will be able to “make” the time available, probably by changing something in our lives, but the bottom line will be how important the exercise is to us. 2. For most of us, one of the hardest aspects of this whole exercise thing is making it a habit. If it is not a habit, we will probably start “forgetting” or “having something else to do” and the exercise will eventually fade into the background and be forgotten. It will be even harder to make something distasteful or time-consuming into a habit. A good tip here is to begin small and concentrate on getting used to the exercise as a regular part of your daily routine before you worry too much about all the other aspects. In other words, start with something simple that you can easily insert into your life, something that will be easy to remember to do regularly. Once the exercise IS a habit, you can expand it and you will soon find that you begin to get uncomfortable if you miss it. A good point here is that the benefits of regular exercise express themselves in many ways, and if you move from being a non-exerciser to a regular exerciser, you will actually begin to enjoy your exercise experiences. 3. Unrealistic expectations plague many who try to begin an exercise program. The reality is that even the finest exercise program will take time to become fully effective and even then the intensity and breadth should increase and the weight decrease at a measured pace. Added to this is the fact most people do not really know how exercise works and what to expect. If you are starting slow as I advise and gradually increasing your effort, gains in fitness will be slow. Weight loss will also be slow, but, over time, a good exercise program will help your weight loss program, your overall health, your mental outlook, and provide defense against many conditions and illnesses. NOTE: If you are beginning an exercise program as part of a weight loss program, don’t be surprised if you gain weight for a while. This is normal. Ignore your scale and concentrate on how you feel and how your clothes fit. Even though you may be gaining weight, you might actually be shrinking as lean tissue replaces fat. 4. Related to the item above is the potential for injury. Unrealistic expectations occur because of ignorance and lack of experience. The same is true for injuries. People either try to do too much too soon, or simply perform exercises improperly or with the wrong equipment. A good brisk walk can feel good from the first day of your new exercise program, but not if you walk too far, too fast, too soon, or wear the wrong kind of shoes. Remember, how much you CAN do is not necessarily how much you SHOULD do. I have a friend who has started exercise programs several times since I have known her. Every time, she tries to start out doing as much as she can. Later she begins to feel sick because she is in poor condition, and then feels washed out and experiences pain over the next few days. That’s the end of her exercise program until the bug hits her again a few months later. Start slow, build up slowly, but keep on doing it and you will reap the rewards of a regular exercise program.
